Captain Brown is a character in the 1967 Supermarionation television series Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. A Spectrum officer, he is killed by the Mysterons in the first episode of the series. He is voiced by Charles Tingwell.

Brown's real name is never specified, although an issue of The New Thunderbirds Comic designates him Alan Stephens (however, this is not necessarily canonical). He appears to be a junior officer of the Spectrum organisation because in "The Mysterons" he is heading his first major assignment.

Death and reconstruction

In "The Mysterons", Captain Brown, partnering Captain Scarlet, is appointed the leader of an operation to protect the World President from assassination at the hands of the extraterrestrials. However, while the captains drive to New York City, the Mysteron influence punctures one of the tyres on the their Spectrum Saloon, causing the vehicle to crash. The Mysterons duplicate the dead men's bodies and task the reconstructions to kill the President.

In New York, the Mysteronised Brown escorts the President to a Maximum Security Building. However, the reconstruction is actually a walking bomb and, once inside the President's office, exudes smoke and explodes. However, the President survives by activating an emergency escape hatch just before the detonation. Later, Scarlet kidnaps the President, but he is killed before inexplicably returning to life with his human consciousness restored.

Ironically, although the series is set in 2068, Brown not only smokes, but smokes unfiltered cigarettes and owns a cigarette case.

Following "The Mysterons"

In "Winged Assassin", Brown appears in a flashback of the fateful car crash when Scarlet recalls the events leading up to his death. The Captain Brown puppet was later re-used for supporting roles in a number of episodes, re-appearing as Charlie Hansen in "Fire at Rig 15", Neilson in "Noose of Ice", a bartender in "Special Assignment", Dr Conrad in "Flight 104", Professor Carney in "Codename Europa" and Major Reeves in "Renegade Rocket".

Gerry Anderson's New Captain Scarlet

In the 2005 remake series, Gerry Anderson's New Captain Scarlet, Captain Brown's real name is Ricky Nolan. He only appears twice throughout the series, and has no dialogue in either appearance. He is white with brown hair.
